SunEvents

BRINGING COMMUNITY TOGETHER.™

SunEvents produces and hosts nonprofit, public affairs and select corporate events at the newly renovated Opera House. Historically the centerpiece of our community, this fully restored landmark is well-suited to help The Laconia Daily Sun revitalize the Lakes Region's "public square."

To foster a growing civic dialogue and help neighbors with opposing points of view have more meaningful conversations - ultimately leading to more participation in our Democracy - this fall SunEvents launched the LAKEVIEWS Discussion Series.

LAKESVIEWS is a series of public discussions on topics of importance to our neighbors, ranging from downtown development and revitalization to short-term rentals, to how our schools are preparing kids for the world outside New Hampshire.

Much as we strive for in the pages of The Laconia Daily Sun, LAKEVIEWS discussions will frame issues of importance to the community and - most importantly - seek consensus that leads to real, workable solutions.

The first LAKEVIEWS discussion was held Sept. 21. It was a symposium and reception focused on the importance of Laconia's ongoing revitalization.

Laconia is being revitalized with the restoration of the Colonial Theater and The Opera House and new development downtown and in Lakeport. The Laconia Daily Sun hosted a panel discussion on how this renaissance is transforming the city and the Lakes Region. Concord developer Steve Duprey, Laconia Mayor Andrew Hosmer, local business owner Karen Bassett, and Meredith developer Rusty McLear led the discussion, moderated by Mike Seymour of Bank of New Hampshire. A cocktail reception immediately followed, hosted by NH Business Committee for the Arts, sponsored by Lavallee Brensinger Architects and Stibler Associates, along with a demonstration of how augmented reality can bring art to you wherever you are.
